When you have a baby every one has an opinion on how you raise them. Some of these opinions are welcomed, some are not. Some are given when no help was required or sought, they are the most frustrating of all.
I've been on the receiving end of some unwelcome advice and opinions recently. On holiday I over heard a family member say I give the Bean too much attention (excuse me?) and on my facebook page I got a comment that started "I might be speaking out of turn" and you just know that one is going to be a doozy. Most recently one friend of mine gave another friend her opinion through comments on a post I had up on facebook, they don't even know each other! This upset my friend with the bub massively, which is understandable, and really made me think about this situation and what can be done about it.
If you do feel the need to share your advice/opinion here are a few pointers to consider (yes I'm giving advice on giving advice... get your head round that!):
1. Remember what your own mother said, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all.
2. Telling someone to "Suck it up" is not giving advice, it's being an ass hat.
3. If your thoughts on an issue weren't asked for then don't give them. No one cares about them except you.
I'm actually surprised at the way most Mum's take this crap on the chin, I have tried to just smile and ignore in most cases but I think I might start to retaliate with some advice of my own. "Oh thanks for telling me I give my bub too much attention. I might be speaking out of turn, but I have to point out your ass looks huge in that skirt. Oh did I offend you?...Well, suck it up." Not so nice to be on the receiving end is it?
What's the most ridiculous advice you were given with your bub?
