Do not read if you are squeamish
Do not read if you are bothered by over sharing (I have to ask why you would be reading this blog if you are!)
Do not read if a post about breastfeeding is TMI for you
OK, you have been warned, you read any further on than this and I won't be held responsible!
As I mentioned in this post I have to express before the Bean is born to make sure there is extra colostrum available in case my milk takes a long time to come through. Seemingly Gestational Diabetes can mess your hormones up even more than giving birth would normally do, so they like a supply to hand to help you out.
Over the weekend I ignored the fact that I had to do this, TBM was going to be home and I didn't feel I could slink off and get a bit of time to try it out, or have a meltdown in peace if it didn't work first time. I mean can you imagine that conversation? "Hey baby, I'm just going into the bedroom to squeeze my boob for a while. No I don't think you should come and watch while I do it." AWKWARD!
So today I gathered my courage and got out my supplies. I have a bag of syringes and a pot with a lid to collect all my goodies in. Once I have collected it I pop the syringe in the fridge and keep using that for the day then put it in the freezer so it stays fresh. I read the pamphlets that were given to me again, had a hot shower, screwed up my courage and gave it a go.
AND I DID IT!
There was about 4 tiny drops came out, but you know what, I was so proud of myself for trying and so pleased with my body for managing it I got the liquid in the syringe and put it in the fridge. It was hardly anything, not exactly a 3 course meal, in fact I think it would be a struggle to even be classed as a small snack for the Bean, but it was proof I did it and I was so amazed I thought, what the hell?
It can take a couple of days of doing this (and you have to do it three times a day) before you get anything worth keeping for the baby, but I don't care. I faced my fear of trying, it worked and hopefully I will be able to manage to get enough to help feed the bub when they arrive.
